About Us
Why We Built This
The frustration that led to KitchenExpert is one most Canadian homeowners recognize: you start researching kitchen renovation costs and you get either American data that doesn’t transfer to Canadian pricing, or vague ranges so wide they’re useless, or showroom consultations that require you to commit to a design before anyone will tell you a number.
None of that is helpful when you’re trying to answer a basic question: is a kitchen renovation actually in my budget this year? We built the estimator to answer that question honestly before the showroom visit, before the contractor calls, before you’ve committed to anything. Canadian cities, Canadian suppliers, 2026 pricing. A number you can actually plan around.
Where the Numbers Come From
Our price ranges come from four sources:
- Completed project invoices: Hundreds of real Canadian homeowners have shared final invoices from their renovations. We use these to validate that our estimates reflect what people actually paid — not original quotes, not projections.
- Supplier pricing: We track pricing directly from Canadian and US cabinet suppliers that ship to Canada, updated quarterly. This gives us baseline material costs that we cross-reference against retail.
- Labour rate research: Labour is the hardest thing to price nationally. We maintain city-specific labour figures based on contractor surveys, industry data, and direct conversations with tradespeople in each market we cover.
- Permit and construction data: Where available, we reference permit records from Canadian municipalities to cross-check renovation activity and cost trends.
What Our Estimates Include
It does not include: countertops, backsplash tile, flooring, appliances, plumbing or electrical work, demolition and disposal, or permit fees. Those are significant costs — but they’re not cabinet costs, and bundling them together produces estimates that confuse more than they clarify.
What We Are and What We're Not
KitchenExpert is a Canadian company. We do not sell cabinets. We do not take referral fees from suppliers or contractors. We have no financial relationship with any brand mentioned on this site.
We’re funded by advertising on the site. That means our incentive is to give you accurate, useful information that brings you back not to steer you toward any particular product or service.
If you spot a pricing error, have invoice data you’d like to contribute, or want to suggest a city or product category we haven’t covered, contact us. We genuinely want the data to improve.
